Emergency services – Police, Fire, Ambulance and Coast Guard
Instead of ringing 999, textphone users can dial the emergency services, Police, Fire, Ambulance, and Coast Guard by dialling 18000. This service is the same as 999 but in text. When you dial 18000 your call will be answered by the emergency service and a Typetalk Operator will be connected instantly to help with the call.
Details of alternative ways to report a crime can also be seen at www.met.police.uk/reporting_crime/

What to do if you think a child is being abused or neglected

Transcript of video

Keeping children safe is everybody’s business, we all have a responsibility. If you think a child is at risk of harm, you must take action. If you think the child may be in immediate danger, you should call 999, otherwise you should contact Lewisham Children’s Social Care on 0208 314 6000.

You can also contact Children’s Social Care, if, for whatever reason, you are finding it hard to cope with your own children. A social worker may be able help, for example, by helping you get access to support services. The Lewisham Children and young people's directory on this website provides a full list of all the organisations and services working with children and families in Lewisham.
