Housing benefit

Transcript of video

If you pay rent for your home you can claim housing benefit, as long as you:

  • are over 16 years of age
  • are responsible for paying rent for where you live
  • live on a low income
  • have savings of less than a certain amount

Unfortunately Housing Benefit cannot help with mortgage payments. If you are a home owner, you may be able to get some help with the interest payments on your mortgage. For advice contact the your local Job Centre or Law Centre.

You can use the links on this webpage to take you to more information for council tax and housing benefit. You can also contact the British Sign Language Communication and Support Workers at Accesspoint.
